Acceptance: Earlier this week I was reminded of Kermit singing the old Jim Henson song:
It’s not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the colour of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
Or something much more colourful like that.
It’s not easy being green.
I’ve met folks who find it difficult to accept who they are, or the situation they find themselves in. Young people in school… working people in their jobs… This week I’ve chatted to folks about health concerns, church situations, family problems…
Sometimes, before I can move forward, I have to accept… that I’m green.
Aspiration: Last night’s local news included the first East Anglian Pinball Open Tournament at Thetford. Forty pinball machines have been donated by local enthusiasts; more than a hundred players from around the world are competing, testing their skills and reflexes. Several folks with high aspirations were interviewed.
It’s the time of year when many young people are preparing for exams after Easter, considering their options for September; there’s hopes, fears and aspirations. In recent days I’ve had conversations with older folks about job applications, hospital appointments, house moves… looking forward to change and improvement.
Achievement: I reviewed my yesterday. I’d done stuff… playing my accordion at our ‘singing for health’ group… scarifying the lawn… enjoying conversations… filing random papers. I reflected on how I evaluate my achievements. I’d started the day alone, walking along the beach, praying and meditating… Had I achieved more then?
This morning I’ve been musing on Solomon’s wise words, ‘God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.’ What does that achievement look like?

It’s beautiful and I think it’s what I want to be.
For Kermit acceptance was both aspiration and achievement.
