I first met this song a few years ago and wrote about it then. I’ve revisited it during this last week. It’s stayed with me.
Jesus said that if I thirst
I should come to him
No one else can satisfy
I should come to him
Jesus said if I am weak
I should come to him
No one else can be my strength
I should come to him
For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind
‘Jesus Strong and Kind’ is a simple but profound song that points simply to Jesus as strong, consistent, faithful and always dependable. We come to him, we run to him, we discover and develop a relationship with him, our Good Shepherd, our Father. He provides security, comfort and hope.

Jesus said that if I fear
I should come to him
No one else can be my shield
I should come to him
For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind
It’s a message for the youngest child, the busy worker, the incapacitated senior citizen. I think of friends, with and without faith. Life is complex and complicated. There are worries, weaknesses, fears, frustrations. Folks are weary, burdened, overloaded. And Jesus is there for us all.
This song is personal – ‘I fear, I come, I run…’ this is not some theory or theology. It’s reality for daily life for everyone to discover and experience Jesus as strong and kind.

Jesus said if I am lost
He will come to me
And he showed me on that cross
He will come to me
For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind.
The picture of Jesus coming to find the lost is a familiar one. The picture that’s come to me several times this week is that of the tree planted by the river. Having come to the strong and kind Jesus I stay there. It’s not just about running to Jesus when things are tough. I plant myself beside the river of refreshing, living water. My roots go deeper. The river provides constant growth, security and life.
Such a beautiful song! Thank you.

It’s not one we sing at our church, Linda. I’d forgotten how beautiful it is.
