Yesterday…
…There were preparations for the ‘First Light Festival’, to be held on the beach this weekend. Art works are being installed, marquees and stages erected, the programme of music and workshops, planned over the past year, will finally come together.
…At our Men’s Shed some of the gents are preparing a float for the carnival in August… at the Seagull they’re planning for summer shows and events. Last night musicians were preparing for a youth event on Friday and our church service on Sunday.
…Conversations included summer holidays, redundancy and employment, grown-up children leaving home, anticipated surgery, moving house…
Preparing for our tomorrows…

We’re updating our will, helped by our friendly solicitor, talking things through with our children. One family joke is around who will inherit my accordion. We’re also setting up ‘Lasting Powers of Attorney’ for our property and financial affairs, and for our health and welfare. Paperwork came through yesterday…
Preparing for our tomorrows: not always easy, but necessary.

Preparing for our tomorrows: not always easy, but necessary.
This morning I read familiar words from Isaiah:
He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart… (40:11)
…The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak. (40:28-29)
I believe that this caring shepherd, this powerful creator has my tomorrows prepared and will care for me whatever they hold.
I continued with less familiar words:
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them. (42:16)
I may prepare, but I can’t see what my tomorrows hold. I continue to trust the one who guides me, and promises to stay with me.
