I came across this Keith and Kristyn Getty song this week and really like it! Each verse starts ‘Lift high the name of Jesus’. It’s not about my needs, problems, or importance but Jesus. This version of the song is a joyful expression of corporate family worship, as together people of all ages ‘Lift high the name of Jesus… And tell of all He’s done’.
Lift high the name of Jesus
Of Jesus our King
Make known the power of His grace
The beauty of His peace
Remember how His mercy reached
And we cried out to Him
He lifted us to solid ground
To freedom from our sin
Oh sing my soul
And tell all He’s done
Till the earth and heavens are filled with His glory!
The starting point is Jesus. We remember who He is, what He did and what He’s doing. We focus on His grace, His peace, His mercy. As we appreciate again how His grace, mercy and peace bring us security and freedom we respond in praise; we worship Him. The finishing point is Jesus.

Lift high the name of Jesus
Of Jesus our Lord
His power in us is greater than
Is greater than this world
To share the reason for our hope
To serve with love and grace
That all who see Him shine through us
Might bring the Father praise…
We start again with Jesus – and His power. Our response is to share, to serve, to shine. As His hope becomes our hope, His love becomes our love and His grace becomes His grace, then others see Him in us and praise the Father. The attention passes from us to Him so again the finishing point is Him.

Lift high the name of Jesus
Of Jesus our Light
No other name on earth can save
Can raise a soul to life
He opens up our eyes to see
The harvest He has grown
We labour in His fields of grace
As He leads sinners home
Oh sing my soul
And tell all He’s done
Till the earth and heavens are filled with His glory!
We’ve remembered Jesus as King, as Lord, and now as Light. In this verse we remember how he changes our lives and opens our eyes to see the world through his eyes. We work in his harvest, as He changes the lives of those around us. As a result, they too will, ‘Lift high the name of Jesus… And tell of all He’s done’.

Perhaps lifting it high on the English East Coast has less initial elevation but the same grand motivation!
