Tens of thousands of people were in Lowestoft this weekend for the ‘First Light Festival’. Our local paper explains:
‘The multi-arts festival – celebrating the first midsummer sunrise in Britain’s most easterly town – had dozens of international acts, award-winning performers, live music, DJs, poets, comedians, fashion parades, workshops, wellbeing zones, art, unique sculptures…’
Yesterday evening tents were coming down, equipment was being loaded into vehicles. Today it’s ‘back to normal’. Many will be tired. Perhaps some will experience ‘Monday morning blues’.

Ted was brought up in a poor working-class family in post-war Liverpool, working on the docks. Ted became a Christian, trained for Christian ministry, lead several churches…
Ted was a deeply spiritual man, yet very practical. His sermons were filled with energy and compassion. Ted was very kind to me and had a significant influence on my life.
Ted’s mental health wasn’t always good. He suffered from depression, making life tough for his family. Ted described to me how he would suffer terribly from ‘Monday morning blues’ after he’d preached on a Sunday.

It’s the Spanish holiday: wonderful memories… barbecue round the pool… sightseeing round quaint villages… late night musicians at the bar… Then – back to work on Monday morning… Monday morning blues.
It’s the clown: There’s been lots of laughter; the slapstick routine has worked well; children have gone home happy. Clown takes of his red nose, wipes off his smile, hangs up his yellow coat, his baggy trousers. He’s ordinary Joe, back to his day job… Monday morning blues…

On a wall in the Auschwitz concentration camp: ‘I believe in the sun, even when it is not shining. I believe in love even when I am alone. I believe in God even when he is silent.’
The prophet Habakkuk: ‘Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food… yet I will rejoice in the Lord.’
Monday morning blues? Sometimes I must just hang in there…
“Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God”. Psalm 42:5
We certainly aren’t alone when it comes to the doldrums. And, gratefully, in Christ we are *never* alone.

Part of my motivation this morning, David, was reading Psalm 63 where David was certainly not in a good place… but he finds his way through a tough time.

It certainly gives puts the week in a different perspective. I guess I was fortunate that I always enjoyed work and didn’t worry about working on Monday morning.

Good response. Certainly King David’s response to Monday morning blues! It’s good how Jesus meets us when we least expect him!
