Today’s Shrove Tuesday. Its name comes from the Christian principle of ‘shriving’: a person confesses their sins, receives forgiveness for them and is released from their guilt and pain…

Sadly, in churches, in society today, the need for confession, forgiveness and release is not so widely recognised. Instead of recognising wrong-doing we excuse ourselves, justify our bad words or behaviour, blame someone else, turn a blind eye…

Shrinkflation mentality… My wrong-doing, faults, sins, are not as big or bad as they really are…

I’m clearing out old files. Yesterday I was reading 35-year-old notes from our church ‘Music and Worship Committee’… recalling good singers and musicians… good people who contributed… good musical events…

We often look back with fondness; our rose-tinted memories wish we were back in the good old days…

Shrinkflation mentality… good things in my community, church, world are smaller… they’re not as good as they were.

Today’s St David’s Day. He died on 1 March 589 and was buried at the site of St David’s Cathedral. His shrine was a popular place of pilgrimage throughout the Middle Ages.

His last words to his followers came from his last sermon: ‘Be joyful, keep your faith and your creed, and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do…’

Shrinkflation mentality musings…

… With shrinkflation St David’s important ‘little things’ can become diminished to nothing. I must continue to contribute, notice, appreciate, value and be thankful for little things.

… I pray for an anti-shrinkflation view of life – that I see both bad and good in their correct size and perspective.

… I’m enjoying the notion of an anti-shrinkflation theology… the God who can do ‘immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine’…
